The Eagles

Every year the Fort Worth Symphony hosts what they call "Concerts in the Garden" where every weekend night for a couple of months they have different concerts held in the botanical gardens under the stars. We went a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so much that we decided to take the kids back again this year.

We figured the kids would enjoy a tribute to the Eagles, since they know most of their hits from a CD we have in our car.

Jason read to the kids before the concert. A favorite for the kids.

So imagine if you will sitting among thousands of people on a huge lawn listening to hits such as "Take it to the Limit", "Hotel California", "Take it Easy" etc. The temperature is lingering at a comfortable 85-90 degrees (that is comfortable, relatively speaking) with just enough humidity to make you sticky, but not sweaty. There is a gentle breeze carrying the scent of bug spray while the bass of the band is beating in your chest. It was perfect (seriously, it was great).

This is what the kids did to entertain themselves all night, played their i-pods (they said they listened to the music too, who knows?)
As good as the music was, I enjoyed the people watching almost as well. Since the Eagles' hey day was in the 70's you can guess that we were among the youngest at this particular concert. Most of the people were in their 50s and 60s.

It is always amusing (it shouldn't be but it is) when people get a bit of alcohol in them. After a few cups of wine (or a whole bottle in some cases) people let themselves free. First they would start swaying on their blankets (or doing the potty dance as we call it at our house). Then their arms would start to sway to the beat of the music. The next thing you know, they are standing solo dancing all by themselves (OK there are several people among the throng doing this, but all are by themselves in that area). It is entertaining.

Also, we had the pleasure of sitting next to Uncle Vernon from the Harry Potter movies. OK it wasn't actually Uncle Vernon, but he did a good impression, everything from the mustache to the teeth. I know I am terribly rude, but I'm calling it as I saw it.

If it makes you feel better, we were the entertainment for others as well. Joshua had a great time spitting cherry pits (he collected them in his mouth and shot them into a garbage bag). People loved that. Or when Bree decided to throw a fit because she didn't want her picture taken (what 50 pictures is too much?). We called some attention then also.
The night ended with a nice fireworks show. We might just have to go again soon.

I had a great time snapping pictures while waited for the show to start. The kids weren't so thrilled.

Looks like a fun night! Eagles... love them! I would love to hit 85 degrees! We are stuck in a series of storms, not much of a summer! Looks and sounds nice in Texas!
