While Josh was at scout camp up in Oklahoma he took the rifle merit badge class. On the first day they learned about the rifle. On the second day they started to do the shooting part of the merit badge. Apparently they had to shoot at ten targets. For the first five targets they had to get three of the shots within an area the size of a quarter. The second five targets they had to get five shots within an area of a quarter.
Josh was so dang good that on one of the guns he not only got the shots within the area of a quarter, he got three of his five shots in the exact hole as one another. He easily passed his rifle merit badge off on the second day.
For the other three days, while the other boys were trying to pass it off, he just got to help the counselors load the guns and such for the other boys. (The rifle counselors thought he might be able to pass off the shot gun merit badge too, but the shot gun counselors said he was too small, bummer).
On Friday night they had an award ceremony. When one of the rifle counselors got up and said they were going to give an award for the best marksman for the rifle, Josh was thrilled when they called his name. So out of all of the troops up there, Josh was the best rifle shooter. It was quite and honor for him and he had a permagrin all night.
