Our poor pup Hugo

Well this past month has been anything but kind to our poor little puppy. In the matter of three weeks, Hugo has undergone two major surgeries.

His first surgery I guess wasn't MAJOR as far as recovery and seriousness, it was just he had to get neutered. That to any male I think would classify as major surgery.

He recovered like a pro and we didn't have any side effects of the procedure, besides the humiliation of wearing the "cone of shame"

Unfortunately, that was only the beginning. When we got home from our vacation, Hugo started to act really sick. He didn't eat at all, and he threw up any liquids he took in. He also was very lethargic and quiet (which he normally never was).

So on Wednesday I took him into the vet and they did some x-rays. The silly dog had eaten all kinds of junk. There was green plastic, fabric, grass, bits of toys and who knows what else all plugging up his intestines. It got so plugged up that nothing was going through.

That is when the vet informed me that he needed to do emergency surgery. Apparently, the intestines can die because there is no blood flow around the area where all that junk was piling up.

So Hugo had both his intestine and his stomach opened up and had all that crud removed. I saw it, and it was tons. He is still at the vets office but we get to pick him up this afternoon. We went and visited him yesterday and he looked so pathetic. He has a huge incision and he had an IV in his front leg. It was really sad to see.

The thing is, we aren't out of the woods yet. The vet told us the critical time is 7-10 days after the surgery. If he starts showing signs of getting sick again, it means the stomach and intestines aren't healing and most likely he won't make it. I'm sad just typing this.

The kids (especially Josh) are taking it really hard. Josh is terrified Hugo will die. So please keep little Hugo in your prayers.
