Jack O Lanterns

One of the unfortunate things we learned early on about Haloween here in Texas is that Jack-O-Lanterns just don't last the way they do in Utah.

The first Haloween we were here we were still in an appartment. We carved our pumpkins about a week early or maybe more. We put our pumpkins out on our patio and by Halloween they were nothing but mush. I couldn't even pick them up to put them into the garbage, I had to scoop up the mess of slimy orange goop that had accumulated where the pumpkins once stood with our dust pan.

We've since learned that you can only carve the pumpkins two days at the most in advance or they will go from this....

to this by Halloween.

We carved our pumpkins a bit too early this year as you might guess.

BUT with that being said, it was 80 degrees yesterday, so who can complain about mushy pumpkins right?
