Quartz Mountain, OK

For Spring break this year we went up to Oklahoma again. This year we went to Quartz Mountain resort. It is in the Wichita mountains I believe. We went with two other families, the Murrys who we have been on several vacations with, and the Schanks, who we just got to know on the trip. We had a great time hanging out with friends.

We went up Thursday evening and we stayed until Sunday. We stayed in the lodge overlooking a lake. This lodge was originally built as an art institute so it has several areas for the performing arts, such as an indoor theater and an outdoor amphitheater.

In several of these pictures we are hiking on the mountains just above the lodge. It was really beautiful with its granite rocks everywhere to hike on. It definitely has a different look than Utah mountains. The kids loved climbing rocks everywhere.

Here is a quick rundown of our activities. We hiked a lot, went horseback riding, canoeing, we rode the paddle boats, hit some golf balls at the driving range and went swimming. We played capture the flag, had a performance night at the empty theater (my family didn't have much to contribute except a few jokes to tell), stayed up late two nights playing Ticket to Ride (one nice win and one very painful loss), and more hiking.

On our way home we stopped at the Wichita mountain animal reserve. They have buffalo, long horn cattle, elk that are all protected there. We hiked up there and it was very beautiful. Parts of it reminded me of Arches (not red rock, just the granite structures).

We were even lucky enough to see a rattle snake. It was the first one I've ever heard or seen. It was rather cool I must admit.

As always, we were sad to see the trip end and can't wait for another.

Bree is on Medussa, Josh is riding Wrangler, mom is on Concussion, and dad is riding Misty. Bree's horse was always stopping to itch itself on trees, or branches, my horse almost fell, and Jason's horse almost got stuck in the mud. I think Josh is the only one who had an uneventful ride, which is a good thing.
