Josh had a fourth grade science fair this past week. We spent a lot of time working on this experiment and I thought it turned out well. His idea for the project was that color affects the way people view food. His project was two fold. One idea was that the color of food (or drink)effects the flavor of food. He had volunteers taste both clear and colored sodas and they had to try and figure out the flavor. It did show that people use color to recognize flavor, but not to the degree we had suspected it would. We did a few things wrong in the experiement so the results weren't as dramatic as we had thought, but it was interesting all the same.
The second part of his hypothesis was that people choose foods that are found in nature (yellow, green etc) more frequently than those foods that aren't (blue colored). For this experiement we had both yellow and blue sugar cookies for our volunteers to take after they had tasted the sodas. We didn't explain what we were doing we just wanted to see if they would choose yellow more often than blue. Yellow was much more popular among adults and blue was much more popular among children.
It was a fun family project, but I'm not in a hurry for Breanna to do one.
