A sad day in the Corry household

Yesterday afternoon we discovered that our little hamster, Chewey, that we have had for almost two years, had passed on to a better place. For a while both Jase and I had noticed that Chewey was slowing way down. We were dreading this day because our children are very sentimental kids and we knew they wouldn't take it well.

We were correct. Both Josh and Bree were heartbroken and crying all evening. We went to the store and bought a little box to put Chewey in and we bought a kit to make a stepping stone for him. We had a little funeral for him and buried him out in our flower garden.

So here is my short dedication (it's awful, but the best I could do).

ODE TO CHEWEY

Chewey (Chewbacca) the worlds cutest pet,
The best darn hamster the world has met.

The spinning, running, all through the night,
the humming wheel til the early dawn light.

His wee little legs were no more than a blurr
as he sped in his wheel, the wind blowing his fur.

Jase had to find Chewey when he went on the lam
Jase screamed like a girly not like a grown man.

I would watch Chewey, always in awe
at the junk he could stuff in his small little jaw.

Bree loved to cuddle our furry, small one,
Petting and caring and having much fun.

Josh built him mazes to see if he was smart.
No rat could compare to this little fart.

We'll miss your cute face and stumpy tail too,
So farewell little rodent, we wish you adieu.
