We had our annual ward trunk-or-treat last night. As usual the kids enjoyed being with friends and collecting way too much candy.
Joshua and Breanna have ulterior motives when it comes to getting candy at Halloween though. They get to sell their candy to us for five cents a piece. They do keep about 20 pieces, but the rest they exchange for cash.
This started way back when Joshua was two or three. We didn't want him to feel like Halloween was a bad holiday and not enjoy the trick or treating (this was before he got his pump) so we let him sell his candy and go buy a toy with his money. Well now this has become quite a profitable solution to Joshua's never ending desire for toys. He has the best of both worlds, he gets to keep and eat (sparingly) the candy he really wants, and the rest he sells to us.
Now Breanna has realized that this is a great deal because she is so picky that she doesn't like most of her candy anyway (unless it involves chocolate). So she ends up getting a good deal of change too.
So is it inappropriate to retreat the neighborhood kids with all of our "new" candy on Halloween night?
Breanna decided she wanted to be a black cat, which I was thrilled about because it was such a simple costume. Joshua, on the other hand, had a difficult time coming up with a costume I could actually make. Finally he decided to be a Hogwarts student. He didn't want to be Harry Potter or any of the main characters. As a matter of fact he didn't want to be part of the Grifindor house at all (I assume you all have either read or watched Harry Potter, but if not, go read the books, they are great). Joshua decided he would be a Hufflepuff student. So I got to make him a cloak for a Hufflepuff student. It was actually quite easy, but time consuming. Anyway, here are a few snapshots of the kids at the trunk or treat.
